What is Pokemon?

Pokemon (the franchise) is a worldwide phenomenon which began in 1997 with the release of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. It has grown to such a scale where there are multiple shoot-offs from the games. These include sequels, a trading card game, and a television series. There are also real life stores called Pokemon Centers which sell merchandise and other items.

What are Pokemon?

Pokemon are creatures that can be found around the world and come in many different forms and sizes. Generally, they are considered the "animals" of the Pokemon world. Pokemon take inspiration from real world objects, animals, and cultures. They can be captured with the use of Pokeballs and can help out in real world applications.

What are regions?

Regions are areas of land and sea which correspond to a real world location. Each region houses unique species of Pokemon, which are inspired by the location that they come from and their culture. Each region also features areas and key locations that come from their real world inspiration.

What is Pokemon the Series?

Pokemon the Series was first aired in Japan in 1997 and in America in 1998. It follows the journey of Ash Ketchum as he travels around world to complete his quest of becoming a Pokemon Master. Over 23+ years, Ash has met countless allies, encountered numerous foes, and travelled to many unique regions.

In total there are currently 8 regions and more than 900 Pokemon which spans across 23 seasons in the series.

The active and 23rd season, Pokemon Journeys, is currently airing on Netflix USA

The protagonist, Ash Ketchum, and his partner Pikachu, has travelled through dozens of unique locations as he strives to become a Pokemon Master.
